How to Choose a Sauna Blanket

Infrared vs standard heating

Infrared sauna blankets heat your body directly rather than just warming the air trapped inside, which most users find produces a deeper sweat at a lower ambient temperature. Standard heating elements are cheaper but rely more on surface heat. If recovery or detox benefits are your main goal, infrared is worth the extra cost.

Temperature range and control

Look for blankets offering at least 50-70°C range with adjustable settings, so you can build up tolerance gradually rather than being stuck with one intensity from day one.

Hygiene and washability

Since you're sweating heavily inside these, a removable/washable liner or wipeable inner layer matters more than it seems at first. Check what's actually washable before buying — some models only allow the outer shell to be cleaned.

Safety features

An auto shut-off timer is worth prioritising, especially if you might doze off during a session. Also check the zip/closure design — you want to be able to get out quickly and easily if you overheat.
